Scott Carroll, a beloved Massachusetts police officer and former U.S. Marine Corps member, passed away suddenly on Sunday morning at the age of 56, leaving the Malden Police Department and the community in mourning.

With 24 years of service to the Malden Police, Carroll’s dedication and commitment were unwavering. Having been promoted to lieutenant just last year after first advancing to sergeant in 2014, he played a vital role in both the administrative and operational divisions of the department.

Carroll’s leadership and dedication to duty earned him deep respect among his colleagues and the community alike. The Malden Police Department released a heartfelt statement on social media, expressing the profound loss they felt with Carroll’s passing.

“May his eternal rest be a source of inspiration, motivating us to continue honoring his life and dedication to serving with pride, both on and off duty,” the statement read.

In their message, the department extended condolences to Carroll’s family and thanked the Malden community for their outpouring of support during this difficult time. Although the cause of his death has not been publicly disclosed, his sudden departure has left a deep void in the hearts of many.

Before his policing career, Carroll served honorably in the U.S. Marine Corps, embodying the values of duty, integrity, and service that he carried into his work as a police officer.

Throughout his career, he was recognized as a “dedicated professional and respected leader” who performed his duties with the utmost pride and integrity.

His contributions went beyond his official roles in criminal investigations and special operations; he was also known for his volunteer work and dedication to community causes.

Last June, Carroll volunteered for the Special Olympics Cruiser Convoy event at Harvard Stadium, representing Malden Police among agencies from across Massachusetts.

He joined Special Olympics athletes, presenting them with medals and ribbons, an experience that reflected his kindness and commitment to giving back.

On Monday evening, a procession of police cruisers illuminated the streets of Malden with blue lights as officers escorted Carroll’s remains to Spadafora Funeral Home.
