More than nine hours after a deadly incident involving many automobiles, all southbound lanes of US Highway 75 near the Plano/Richardson border have reopened. According to Richardson police, the chain-reaction incident involving seven automobiles occurred just before midnight in the 3400 block of the North Central Expressway, near the George W. Bush Turnpike interchange.
A Lexus SUV collided with the back of a Cadillac SUV that had stalled in the southbound HOV lane. A Dodge car then collided with the first two cars, resulting in more collisions involving a Nissan car and an 18-wheeler. Debris caused damage to two additional vehicles. Three people were killed and seven more were injured. The Lexus driver, 27-year-old Haley Taylor, and her 6-year-old daughter perished in the hospital.
According to police, the Cadillac carried seven occupants. They had all exited the vehicle after it stalled and were standing nearby when the collision occurred. Alyia Khalid, 19, a passenger, died at the site. The driver and four other passengers were brought to the hospital for various ailments. Only one passenger in the Cadillac was unharmed. The driver and a passenger in the Dodge were both hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.
