Kevon Walker, a freshman at St. Francis University in Loretto, Pennsylvania, has tragically passed away. A promising young man from Buffalo, New York, Kevon was known for his immense presence both on and off the football field.
A graduate of Canisius High School (CHS), Kevon left a lasting impact on his classmates, coaches, and teachers. His high school graduation was a proud milestone for him and his family, a day where his joy and pride shone brightly.

As a football standout at CHS, Kevon’s physical strength and skill were remarkable, and his upbeat personality made him beloved by everyone who knew him. Standing 6-foot-3 and weighing 250 pounds, Kevon was a force to be reckoned with on the field as a defensive lineman.

In 2023, he earned first-team All-Catholic honors, a testament to his hard work and dedication. His talent and commitment to football earned him a scholarship to Division I St. Francis University, where he continued to pursue his athletic dreams and saw action as a freshman this season.

Kevon remained closely connected to his high school community even after graduating. In September, during CHS’s annual football game against their rival St. Joe’s, Kevon returned to support his former teammates, assisting in the locker room and cheering from the sidelines.

His dedication to his team and school was unwavering, and he made a special effort to be there for significant events, demonstrating his loyalty and passion for the sport and the community.

Following the news of Kevon’s passing, CHS Football Head Coach Kraig Kurzanski and Principal Coppola met with the football team, offering support and guidance during this difficult time. Counselors and staff have been made available to students to help them process the loss.

St. Francis University also held a Mass in Kevon’s honor on Tuesday afternoon, led by school President Fr. Malachi Van Tassell. The service was a deeply moving tribute, with Kevon’s photo and jersey displayed at the altar.

An overflow crowd attended the Mass, showing the depth of his impact on the St. Francis community. His teammates wore their black jerseys in his memory, standing in solidarity with his family, who were also in attendance.

Kevon’s passing leaves a void in the hearts of many. Arrangements for his memorial have yet to be announced, but his legacy of strength, kindness, and dedication will live on in the memories of those who knew him. His family, friends, teammates, and coaches will remember him not only as a talented athlete but also as a vibrant, loving presence in their lives.
