Jill Tracey, a beloved Miami radio personality and candidate for Hollywood City Commissioner, passed away at 60, leaving a profound void in South Florida’s media and community circles. Known for her vibrant spirit and infectious laugh, Tracey was a staple on Miami’s Hot105 radio station for over a decade, where her voice and community-focused programs resonated deeply with listeners. Her passing has sparked an outpouring of tributes from colleagues, listeners, and community leaders who admired her dedication and charismatic presence.
Calvin Hughes, news anchor at WPLG and president of the South Florida National Association of Black Journalists, shared his sentiments in a statement honoring her legacy: “Jill’s vibrant spirit and infectious laughter will be profoundly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.” Tracey had been actively involved with the organization, embodying its mission to uplift and connect Black journalists across the region. Over her years at Hot105, Tracey contributed to the station in numerous ways, most recently as the host of “Hot Talk with Jill Tracey,” a community engagement program aired over the weekends.
Her early-morning show, from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m., was a favorite among listeners, known for its mix of lively discussions, local updates, and culturally relevant topics. Her dedication to Miami’s Black community shone through in her work, as she frequently covered issues affecting her audience and brought attention to important community matters. In June, Tracey and another veteran radio personality, James T, were unexpectedly laid off from Hot105, a decision that came without explanation from Cox Media Group, the parent company of Hot105 and Miami’s 99 Jamz.
